Work less, make more…

Sean BowerA common goal among us all in life has always been to work as little as possible while making ourselves wealthy. So far I’m well on my way to doing exactly that.

And while we tend to blame the inability to accomplish that goal on things like bad luck or not having the same advantages as successful people, deep down we realize that it’s all about the actions we take.

So how am I accomplishing the goal of working less and making more? By following these 3 simple models for wealth…

1. Stop checking email

You may very well have tricked yourself into thinking that constantly checking your email is productive, but it’s actually one of the biggest time-wasters we experience each and every day.

Here’s what you do: gradually move away from checking your email until you get to the point where you’re only doing so the bare minimum. First, change to once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Then move to just once a day. If that’s allowing you to keep the machine running smoothly, test checking your email every other day, and eventually get it to once a week.

You’ll find that the following happens:

  • You’re no longer interrupting your own progress by stopping to check your email every hour.
  • The issues that regularly pop up and distract you from the truly important tasks will start to actually solve themselves.
  • You’ll have fewer emergencies to deal with because employees or coworkers will realize that they have to solve those problems themselves.
  • You’ll become less stressed and more efficient.

As long as you’re accomplishing the important tasks, this model will help you chase down wealth faster.

2. Tangibly systemize your days

The amount of success we achieve is all determined by the sum of what we accomplish each and every day. So it’s only logical that enhancing your daily productivity will earn you more wealth.

Here’s how to do so:

First, have a physical list of some sort that includes every task you need to accomplish. At the top of the list, write down the 2 or 3 things that are vital to achieving your next goal – the things you’d do if you were only able to work for an hour each day.

Then break down the larger tasks into smaller steps. This will give you clarity and protection against feeling overwhelmed. A big project can seem like a gigantic mountain to climb until you break it down into smaller, less intimidating tasks.

And accomplishing those smaller tasks will help you feel encouraged to do even more. Instead of burning out by hacking away at something and feeling like you’re not getting anywhere, you’ll find happiness and motivation by checking task after task off your list.

Eventually this system will allow you to find which tasks are truly important, and cut your to-do list down to the few things you actually need to do. Less work, more money…
