The 2 tricks to instant efficiency

Sean BowerYou probably don’t even realize it right now, but you’re inefficient. Sorry to give you the bad news.

And your inefficiency is forcing you to sacrifice productivity, again, without you even knowing it.

But don’t worry- I used to be the same way…until I began utilizing these 2 tricks that instantly made me more efficient…

Do you want a promotion? Do you need to get more things done around the house? Would you simply like to free up more time to do what you want?

Time is the most precious thing in this world, after all.

How would you do any or all of that?

Simple, you could just become more efficient.

More efficiency would help you get more done at work, leading to your boss taking notice of your enhanced productivity.

More efficiency would, in essence, help you get things done faster around your home without sacrificing quality.

And more efficiency would free up more time to do what you want simply because you would be getting everything else done quicker.

And all it takes to gain instant efficiency are these 2 tricks…

1. Schedule your email activity

You’ll be amazed how much time this frees up for you as soon as you decide to give this trick a try.

Email has taken over our working lives in many respects. Most people say they check their email anywhere from 6 to 20 times per day…20! That sounds ridiculous doesn’t it?

You might scare yourself by tracking your own email habits and seeing how close to 20 you get.

I actually used to check my email at least a dozen times per day. It was pointless to check that many times, I wasted precious time (I don’t even want to think about how much), and when I switched to my current schedule of checking only twice per day, nothing horrible happened.

That’s right, I only check email at 2 times throughout the day, and remarkably nothing completely fell apart in my life.

It actually gave me more time to accomplish other tasks than I expected, and it has an added benefit- email often interrupts your focus. When you stop checking your email as often, you’ll find that you won’t lose focus on more important tasks, leading to increased efficiency.

So give it a try. Start by checking your email only 4 times a day maybe. Then work it down to 2 or 1, or even just once a week if possible!

2. Identify your biggest time waster

What do you normally waste time on throughout any given day? Be honest with yourself.

And leave out checking your email, since we just covered that.

For instance, one of the biggest time wasters I used to have was checking on what I had to do the rest of the day. For you it could be unnecessarily checking results for something too often, or checking the news online, or something like that.

Cut it out of your daily routine. At the very least, scale it back as much as possible.

I didn’t need to be checking my to-dos every hour- I was just always worried that I was forgetting something.

So to fix that issue, I began writing down my entire list of tasks for the day on the same pad of paper, leaving it alone after giving it a good scan in the morning, and then only checking it at lunchtime and with about an hour left in the day.

Cutting out your biggest time wasters and scheduling your email activity will immediately make you more efficient than you thought possible.
