4 changes you need to make

Sean BowerThis column isn’t meant to turn everyone into instant successes. I’m not attempting to give every person a wake-up call each time I write in this area.

Instead, I’m simply trying to provide guidance to those who are willing to chase success, not just wait for it to magically show up at the doorstep.

Today, I’m only writing to the people who are truly serious in that regard. Why? Because in order to start and remain on the correct path, I need to ask you to make these changes to your life…

I believe that every person pushes himself or herself closer to success or failure with virtually every action (or lack of action) in almost every aspect of life.

Achieving success is about constantly moving toward your goals as well as constantly sprinting away from failure.

Getting to success is a journey, but one that CAN be outlined and prepared for.

But before you can get to your destination, you need to make these 4 changes to your life and yourself:

1. Learn the difference between productivity and business

Most people go to work or begin a project and make themselves busy. Well, busy doesn’t mean anything positive. Instead, you need to become productive.

While business means filling the time by working at a task (no matter how meaningless), productivity means making strides towards something of worth.

If you haven’t yet, try to study yourself when you’re working. Are you simply filling the hours with little unimportant tasks? Or are you actually focusing on something meaningful and progressing?

2. Force clarity

Most unsuccessful people never achieve their dreams because they either never actually know what they’re trying to achieve, or because they never think out what their goals are along the way.

You must make your goals and path to success perfectly clear.

Think about what you want to achieve or complete next, then what’s after that, and so on.

Write down your goals and be specific. Then use that as your roadmap. Stop wandering without.

3. Become serious about your health

A lot of people make the mistake of ignoring their health as they rabidly chase success. I made that mistake myself.

The change I had to make was to really begin paying attention to my health, both physically and mentally.

If you can relate to this, make sure you’re maintaining balance in your life. Eat healthier, make sure you’re getting enough sleep (that made a huge difference for me), don’t ignore your own personal needs or your close relationships just because there’s work to be done, etc.

4. Stay organized and driven

I put these two things together because I think they fuel each other. Firstly, you HAVE to become organized if you want to find success. Organization forces efficiency, efficiency forces productivity, and productivity forces success.

It’s a real formula.

And proper organization helps to spur you on and keep you driven. And being driven doesn’t just mean acting like you want a promotion at work but till dragging yourself through the door at 9 a.m. and sprinting out at 5 p.m. on the dot.

Change your attitude and truly be driven. Come in whenever it is you think you need to in order to get the day started right (with consideration for ample sleep), and leave when you think you’ve been productive and gotten everything done that needs to get done that day.

Balance, drive, organization, and clarity are the building blocks to success. Make the changes in your life to make those things a priority.
