How I dodged this $40,000 mistake…

I came within a week of making a $40,000 mistake.

It seemed like a solid opportunity at the time… A trusted contact vouched for it… the numbers looked good on paper… I’d done my research (or at least what I thought was research)… I was ready to commit.

Then I made one phone call that changed everything.

I called a man whose judgment I trusted more than almost anyone else’s… someone who’d made and lost and rebuilt real money over decades, who had no reason to flatter me and every reason to be honest. I walked him through the deal, laid out the numbers, made my case.

He listened, then asked three questions I hadn’t thought to ask myself. And then he said, very calmly, “I wouldn’t.”

That was it. Two words and I pulled out.

Six months later, three people I knew who got in on that same opportunity lost everything they’d put in. One of them was someone I’d almost convinced to join me.

I think about that phone call a lot. Not because I’m proud of making it (it was almost a last-minute gut check before I signed) but because of how close I came to not making it at all.

How easy it would have been to just proceed. The way most people do. Alone, confident, and wrong.

That’s the thing about bad financial decisions… They rarely feel like bad decisions going in. They feel like opportunities. They feel like finally catching a break.

The warning signs are there, but you need someone who’s been around long enough to recognize them for what they are… and who’ll tell you the truth even when it’s not what you want to hear.

Most people don’t have that person. They have advisors with their own interests, friends who don’t want to rain on the parade, and a general culture that rewards confidence over caution. So they go in.

Sometimes it works out… but sometimes it doesn’t.

The difference between the people who build real lasting wealth and the ones who spend their lives almost getting there often comes down to exactly this:

Access to someone who’s already navigated the terrain and will be straight with you about what’s ahead.

I’ve tried to be that person for others over the years. The one who asks the questions you haven’t thought to ask; the one who spots the drop-offs before you step in them; the one who tells you the truth because they’re invested in how it turns out for you, not in keeping you comfortable.

My Money Mentor program is the most direct, personal way I’ve ever offered to do that. Intimate access to me that comes with a genuine commitment to helping you get where you’re trying to go.
