Does this insider move lead to profits?

Sean BowerThe insiders never stop trying to make money, and not even a turbulent market will keep them from buying if they believe they can profit somehow.

But when the storm is the fiercest, that’s when you learn which trees are the strongest.

While the winds of the currently bumpy market are blowing, this tree is standing tall and firm…at least as far as the insiders are concerned…

Before I go any further, remember that the insiders aren’t always right, they don’t always see past what’s happening in their own companies, and they certainly can’t see into the future.

So we can’t simply follow behind a group of insiders step for step when they decide to make a move, especially in this uncertain market.

However, there are always some confident insider plays that we just can’t ignore. We don’t have to react to them, but we can’t just let a profitable opportunity pass us by either.

That’s why First Financial Bancorp. (FFBC) caught my attention when 10—yes, 10—insiders decided to all buy shares in their company in early October.

These purchases, made at $15.99, totaled approximately $45,000.

And one interesting thing about this insider action is that there hasn’t been too much news regarding FFBC lately. The only headline within the past month or so is that FFBC appointed two new directors.

I can’t see a concrete reason why 10 insiders would decide to buy on the same date, so perhaps this is a classic case of the insiders learning a piece of privileged information and preparing for the price of the stock to rise.

However, the indicators I use to select the best stocks with insider buying in Penny Stock Insider aren’t giving me the signals I need in order to call this a good trade just yet based solely on the insiders making a purchase.

For now, I’m sticking with my attitude that we can’t follow the FFBC insiders simply because they made a strong move. Instead, I’ll let the market, my indicators, and new information tell me when and if the FFBC insiders were right to buy their own company’s stock.
