Makes you an expert in anything in 4 weeks

Sean BowerFor some reason, the vast majority of people are all too willing to give themselves limitations. Severe limitations.

For instance, I recently spoke with a Midas Legacy student who thought he had the ability to start his own business in just 1 field. As he explained to me, he didn’t go to college and had only ever worked as an electrician, so that’s the only thing he knew enough about to build a business in.

Well, he was wrong. He has the potential to start a business in just about any field in the world.

How? Because he can become an expert in just about anything within 4 weeks…and so can YOU…

I hear it all the time: “I’d like to start a business about XYZ, but I’m no expert in it.”

That “XYZ” could be investing, cooking, relationships, fashion, shoes, etc. It doesn’t matter.

Not being an expert (yet) is the biggest obstacle to starting a business for most people. But it’s an obstacle you can overcome with ease by becoming an expert in anything in 4 weeks in these 5 steps…

1. Join a few organizations

Let’s say you want to start a business around fishing equipment. Your first step in becoming an “expert” on fishing gear is to join 2 or 3 organizations that fit. There will be plenty out there for pretty much anything.

So join the Fishermen Of America and the Professional Organization of Fishing Equipment Salesmen. A quick Internet search and a few minutes online will be all you need for this step.

2. Read a few books

How does anyone become an expert on anything? They research the topic, right?

So go read 2 or 3 top-selling books about whatever field you’re trying to become an expert in. You can search the NY Times bestseller list.

If you want to label yourself an expert in real estate, search for the top-selling real estate books and get to reading.

3. Give a free seminar

With the information you learned from your reading and from what you already know, create a simple seminar that teaches what you learned for a novice in the field.

If you want to start a business in relationship advice, give a free seminar about that topic at a local university and/or big-name business. As long as you give it for free and don’t sell anything while on stage, there will likely be very little issue.

Record your seminar(s) just in case you may want to sell the DVD product after the fact, however.

4. Write a few articles for magazines in your field

This is pretty straightforward – if you want to start an investment business, contact a few investment magazines (online is perfectly fine) and offer to write a few articles for free.

5. Join ProfNet

ProfNet is a service that journalists use to find expert subjects to interview about a topic for a story. If you’ve completed the first 4 steps above, you should have no problem with this step.

And this could get your quoted as an expert in a major news publication!

Congratulations – you are now an expert in (whatever it is that you chose) and no longer have the most common barrier holding you back from starting your business in that field…
