You’ve spent years learning things the hard way, on the job, in life, by fixing problems other people didn’t want to touch. Turns out someone out there would happily pay you to just talk them through it.
No website, no huge following, no fancy setup required.
There’s a simple way to package what’s already in your head into something people will book and pay for, and it’s a lot less complicated than it sounds.
The obvious question is who would actually pay you to consult. Probably more people than you’d guess.
Most people picture consulting as corporate speak for ex-executives. In reality, it’s much simpler. If you know how to do something that saves someone time, money, or a headache, that’s worth money to them.
The big thing people miss is that you aren’t selling raw information, you’re selling clarity. Your experience is just a shortcut someone else is willing to pay for.
You don’t need a formal certification to do this. It could be basic bookkeeping or calendar management from a past job.
It could be helping someone navigate insurance paperwork, planning a house downsizing, or just being the person everyone already asks to review their resume. If people already come to you for it, that’s your first real clue.
Skip the vague “I offer consulting” pitch, it doesn’t land. Pick one specific thing you can deliver in a single 30 to 60 minute call. A resume tune-up, a bookkeeping setup session, a room-by-room declutter plan, or a mock interview with honest feedback.
Notice that these aren’t massive ongoing projects, making them easy for a client to say yes to.
Pricing doesn’t need to be complicated. Somewhere around $49 to $99 for a shorter call, up to $150 for a full hour, works fine to start. You can always raise it later once you’ve got a few happy clients and something to point to.
Getting clients doesn’t require building an online business from scratch.
Skip Fiverr if you can, the pricing race to the bottom there isn’t worth it for something this personal. A Calendly link and a Zoom call will do the job just fine, and you can literally text that booking link to people you already know.
When someone asks what you do, most people freeze up right there. Have one line ready instead:
“I help people over 50 clean up their resume and interview answers so they feel ready to apply again. Want to do a quick call together?”
Spend one day writing down ten things people already ask you for help with. The next day, turn one of those into a single sentence offer, and pick a price and a length for the call. After that, set up your booking link and tell five people you know what you’re now offering.
Do one discounted session in exchange for an honest testimonial before you charge full price to a stranger.
You don’t need to become anyone’s idea of an influencer for this to work… You just need to hand people a clear, paid conversation and an easy way to book it.
