I’m constantly talking about the habits that successful people keep in their schedules to uncover more and more success.
There are a LOT of them, but I don’t think I’ve found one as effective as this daily habit.
It’s something you’ll have heard about before, but I’m going to explain why it works and how you can incorporate it into your daily routine to uncover your success…
Get out of bed!
That’s right… I’m talking about getting up early and starting your day as productively as possible.
A lot of people try to prepare themselves for earlier mornings by going to bed earlier the night before, but that’s not usually enough to create a lasting habit.
The truth is, even if you go to bed an hour earlier, your body is still used to waking up at a certain time, and even if you get more sleep, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll wake up earlier feeling as good as you do when you wake up at your normal time.
You may be wondering why waking up earlier even matters…
Well, if you’re satisfied with following your current schedule and “doing just fine” then, by all means, don’t change anything.
But if you’re ready to try something new and uncover your success, then continue reading.
Numerous studies have been conducted on the effects of waking up early on people’s success and wealth.
Individuals who are early risers are more proactive and look towards the future with a goal-oriented mindset.
They’re also likely to anticipate problems quicker than others and solve those problems more efficiently.
Early risers also tend to be better planners and use their extra time in the morning to organize their day and accomplish goals.
If all of these weren’t reason enough, waking up earlier (and going to bed earlier) gives you better, more sound sleep, because it’s more in tune with Earth’s circadian rhythms.
So, to recap, waking up earlier makes you more proactive, motivated, and goal-oriented likely leading to success.
Now all you must do is make the switch to being an early riser!
While that may seem like an overwhelming prospect, I have a surefire way to make waking up earlier as painlessly as possible.
The trick is to not try and make too big of a change too quickly.
If you do that, you’re practically guaranteed to fail.
It can be incredibly difficult to institute a new habit, so patience is key. But it’s all possible with the 15-minute rule.
Change your wake-up time in 15-minute increments, so the first day set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier. Wake up the first time it goes off.
Day 2, keep it at that 15-mnute earlier time, so you’re not changing your schedule too quickly.
Day 3, add another 15 minutes earlier, so you’re waking up 30 minutes earlier than your initial wake-up time.
Keep that alarm setting for the next day, and then on Day 5 add another 15 minutes.
Use this 15-minute rule until you’ve reached your ideal wake-up time.
If you have longer to institute a new wake-up time and the 15-minute rule feels too aggressive for you, try changing your alarm by just 1 minute every other morning.
It’ll take much longer to reach your goal wake-up time but will make for a very smooth transition.
Other tips that can make waking up early easier for you are to do some preparation the night before: lay out what you want to wear the next day, and maybe even do some breakfast food prep.
That way you’ll be able to jump out of bed without feeling weighed down by all the options.
Also make sure your bedroom is slightly cool, between 60- and 70-degrees Fahrenheit, which provides for optimal sleeping conditions.
Waking up earlier could be the key to unlocking your true potential and opening the door for success.
Who knows what you’ll be able to accomplish once you join the ranks of the early risers and uncover the secrets to success.
